Resetting your requests of God in a posture of "Thy Will be done " instead of My will be done ...
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Hello and welcome to Shine. I am your host Nicole Florence and this week we have been talking about how do we reset after a period of rest or restoration. We've talked about pausing, having more patience, so we are in a better posture to truly use the fruit of the Spirit. We also talked about resetting our mindset and truly understanding and having the wisdom, the clarity to see the moments, to see the opportunities that God has placed us for our purposeful path. And today I just want to talk a little bit about resetting our requests. I think for many of us, and we've all been in those moments where we become so exhausted, like I said, you know, physically, emotionally, spiritually, that when we do make a request of God, I know personally for me, it is Lord, just get me through this day, get me through the week. Um, Lord, please alleviate some of the stressors that I am under because I get to that point of full anxiousness and fear and unpredictability and to a place where I don't trust myself in my decisions because they will come from such a fleshy place, right? Because I am so uncomfortable, and if I am not well rested, um I tend to impulsively um make a decision. Yes, I have my own free will, but it may not be one that is truly in alignment with my purpose. So after I am able to rest in him and be fully kind of restored in all those realms, physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, I am in a much better place to trust him more than I trust me. Um my friend uh KP, she got me this sticker, which I love. It's actually on my computer right now, and it says, hold on, I'm asking Jesus. And I think what happens is for many of us, we don't trust him first. We ask for a lot of things to alleviate our discomfort instead of trusting the discomfort he has placed us in for a reason. And so part of my reset after a period of restoration is to really be very intentional and specific in my heart as well as my words when I am praying or when I am in a situation where I am asking him first. And many of us know the Lord's prayer, and when I am making a request, I think about instead of saying, My will be done, right? My will being get me out of this uncomfortable situation, alleviate my stressors. Um we know that in the Lord's Prayer we say thy will be done. And so part of the reset that I try to do is making sure that when I am in a posture of asking or understanding, or if I am in a posture of needing to alleviate my discomfort, instead of being more self-centered and flesh-centered, I try to ask, God, your will be done, not mine, but your will be done. Because I know any situation I am in, any pain or discomfort, I know there is a purpose, there is a plan. It is not going to be one that is eternal, and so I don't need to make that request because it's already done. So I encourage you as you are in those moments, as you are trying to reset for your day, if you are in those situations, that you are in a much better posture to remember to trust Him before you trust yourself, and to say, Thy will be done, Lord, not mine. And please give me the wisdom, the discernment, and the clarity in this moment to truly see and know what my words, uh, what my actions uh should be for thy will to be done. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
