The restoration we receive with our rest allows us to have the patience to pause and allow our words and actions be guided by the Spirit
James 1:19
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Welcome back to Shine. I'm your host, Nicole Florence, and for many of you bird connoisseurs, you may be able to tell that we are back in the Midwest with our morning symphony of Midwest birds. So I wanted to continue to talk about how do we reset after we rest. And it's interesting because yesterday on our travel day, I was really kind of getting settled in with how I intend to practice that upon my arrival home. And of course, my emails were blowing up. A lot of I will say urgent needs for responses. You know, you even start, you know, getting those pangs of guilt, you know, like, oh, you know, maybe this wasn't the best time for um us to take vacation. Although it was, you know, our daughter is pregnant, she can't travel starting in a few weeks. But then you also deal with the um emergent things at home. You know, we had uh quite a few of storms while we were gone, what is the house going to look like, you know, all those thoughts and anxiousness, and of course I've got um a family member who is still walking in that wilderness, y'all. Um, and me being kind of uh a lifeline for him, whether you know it's the right thing, wrong thing, it is what it is. Um, you know, that separation and distance can create a lot of um angst and anxiousness that I had to return to. And so this was so apropos for me that I am really gonna have to dig deep and practice this uh myself. Um what I thought about was with my rest, my ability to reset was firmly in having patience and firmly being in tune with a little bit clear wisdom and discernment of my circumstances, of my responses, of how I was going to handle all of these things, which I clearly did not have before I left for vacation. And part of my patience to pause, I tried to practice in a way that I hope the others around me noticed. I don't know uh where before uh, you know, I would have that response in my mind and almost typing an email before I'd even finished reading what was actually being sent. Um a lot of times I would be anxiously fixing a problem I would anticipate before it was even going there. And it was really important for me to truly pause and be patient and really be in a place of taking that deep breath and be like, okay Lord, how do you really want me to respond here? How do you want the Spirit to guide me in this situation? And instead of pouncing in my response instead of very quickly reacting and responding, I really wanted to take to heart of what we have been told in Scripture, and I'm sure many of you have this, you know, on the tip of the tongue and in your heart. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. James chapter 1, verse 19. Just pop it in my head. And I love how the spirit and the knowledge of the word guided me to those principles of truly resetting how I am going to use the rest that I've been given, not only professionally, but also personally. And part of having that patience to pause and reflect is giving us time to really allow the spirit to guide us. It is giving us those precious seconds or moments to truly ask him first instead of having those kind of fleshy reactions and responses that honestly can get a lot of us into trouble and off our path. So I pray that as many of you are learning how to rest in God, rest for God, or even trying to truly be refreshed and reset in the spirit, that you yourself are able to take those pauses before reacting, before responding, and allowing yourself to be guided in those situations in a way that is in alignment with the spirit. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
