This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Hello, welcome to Shine. I'm your host Nicole Florence. And today we're talking a little bit about the difference between knowledge and wisdom, or I like to say between knowing and knowing. And I wanted to share with you some thoughts about how we know the name. I love the song by Elevation Worship called I Know a Name, and I will post the link in the comments. But it really talks about how powerful the name Jesus is. And it caught it really caught me of how when you look and read scripture, I think we tend to gloss over some of the names and maybe don't truly understand their impact, their significance, and truly how they are so powerful to the overall purpose of the person that God has created. Now, yes, we know what Jesus means, right? The Lord saves, and we understand how powerful that name is every time we you know cry out to him, every time we praise him, sometimes just in silence, just saying that name we know brings us to a place where we understand his love, his mercy, his blessings. And sometimes when I pray, that's all I say. I mean, I go old school, y'all, like my Gigi used to do, like, oh Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. But as I've been reading through scripture and really just trying to get through the Bible, we have to understand that everything is so intentional. And even though I know a name, there is so much wisdom in the name that was chosen specifically for us, for example. When you think about the name Samuel, which means God has heard. And I I you know, we know the story, right? You know, Hannah, who was barren, who was praying so fervently that the priest thought she was drunk. Um, and and and just how much she prayed to God, and even said to God, if you give me a son, I will give him back to you. And just how beautiful the name Samuel was chosen for him, and and how he became someone who God heard. God spoke directly to Samuel, helped guide the people through Samuel the prophet, and he was so impactful just throughout the historical descriptive part of the Bible, but also the prophetic one. And I think that we sometimes don't understand how powerful the name Samuel is. Okay, let's think of another one. Moses, right? Moses means drawn out of the water. And yes, we all remember the story of a time when all the young Hebrew sons were being murdered, right, by Pharaoh, because he did not want them to raise a king who would challenge or uh overtake him. And Moses was saved. Moses was put in the little basket. We've all seen the movies, right? And was drawn out of the water by um the Egyptian queen. And the power of being drawn out of the water, we have to also connect the dots, the power that Moses displayed through God at the Red Sea. He drew his people out of bondage and slavery and through the water, where they could then proceed to the promised land. I mean, how incredibly prophetic. And now, right, we have that knowledge. I know Moses, but now I know Moses. You know, what about Ruth? Ruth, who was named as a baby, and you know what the name Ruth means in Hebrew? Friend or companion, and how she stayed by her mother-in-law's side, and how she traveled with her and took care of her when she could have easily gone the other way, but she was that true friend and companion, and prophetically, she became one of the ancestors of Jesus through her marriage to Obed. Right? Now that you know this, I mean it's hard to even unsee it, right? That's the difference between the knowledge of the scripture but the wisdom of the scripture. And yes, I had to look for my name. And my name being Nicole, which I know is more of a Greek name, is actually found in the book of Acts. And there was a convert, Nicholas, who was actually one of the chosen disciples along with Stephen to carry the word and be disciples of the gospel. And Nicholas means conqueror or victor of people. So as I think about that, I hope, I pray that God's chosen name for me, through my mama and my daddy, of course, helps me understand my purpose. As you read through scripture, don't skip over the details. Understand the name. Understand the words. There are many times that something that seems so simple and descriptive, it is there for a reason. I encourage many of you as you're reading scripture, use a study guide. I have a Bible dictionary that I use that kind of helps me understand why they describe a cedar tree? Why did they name certain names? Because, yes, we want to read scripture for the knowledge of what we gain not only descriptively and historically, but we also want the wisdom, the wisdom that God has placed in between the lines that will help us understand Him and His character and His love for us and help us create that relationship with Him that I know I long for, but I know most definitely He longs for. So I encourage you to, yes, know the names, but I also encourage you to know the names. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
